Complete Moisture Plus
Complete Moisture Plus contact lens solution is a multipurpose or "all-in-one" contact solution. It was manufactured by Advanced Medical Optics and used by contact lens wearers across the United States. The recalled contact solution was used for both cleaning and storing soft contact lenses. Prior to the Moisture Plus recall the product had been on the market for several years.
According to recent studies, multipurpose contact solutions like Complete Moisture Plus may be less likely to kill dangerous bacteria compared to peroxide-based cleaners. The danger with the Complete Moisture solution is the increased risk of developing the eye infection Acanthamoeba keratitis (AK). AK primarily affects otherwise healthy people, most of whom wear contact lenses. In the United States, an estimated 85% of cases occur in contact lens users.
On May 25, 2007, Advanced Medical Optics (AMO) issued a press release announcing the voluntary recall of its Complete® MoisturePLUSTM Multi-purpose Contact Lens Solution from the market.

- Remove your lenses and stop using Complete® MoisturePLUS TM Multi-purpose Contact Lens Solution immediately.
- Contact AMO at 1-888-899-9183 for instructions on what to do with unused solution.
- Replace your contact lenses and storage case.
- Ask your eye care professional about choosing another appropriate alternative cleaning/disinfecting product.
